Adjusting the tangent of the strings:
- First, tune the string itself
- Using a screwdriver, gently loosen the screw on the tangent so that the lower nut does not come loose.
- According to the tuner, turn the tangent to the required side.
- Tighten the screw gently.
- For tuning, you can use, for example, an application on a mobile phone (Tuner – Pitched, …)
Resin:
You can use classic violin resin for a hurdy-gurdy wheel. You can also make a liquid resin that is suitable for the string under the cotton wool so that the cotton wool does not roll. You can also use it in a thin layer on the wheel. Then you have to move the strings away from the wheel and let the resin dry.
A lot of resin or grease from your hand on the wheel can cause a squeaky voice.
You can remove excess resin or grease by gently applying a paring knife to the rotating wheel, preferably on the side of the drone string.
How to make liquid resin:
- Prepare a bottle with the brush and resin.
Put the resin in a plastic bag and break off the pieces with a hammer. - Pour the denatured alcohol (preferably 80% alcohol) into the bottle.
- Put about 2x1x1 cm of resin into the bottle and let it dissolve for about 30 minutes.
